Welcome

Welcome to the Distance Learning Section (DLS) of ACRL.

The DLS is made up of professionals who work to support the library and research needs of distance and online learning students and faculty. But you don’t need the word “distance” or “online” in your title to be a member of this group. Our group includes distance and online education librarians, educational technologists, and instructional designers. As the world of higher education changes and online learning becomes the widely available, we all serve students and faculty who are not physically on campus. The DLS is here to help you.

The DLS officers, committee chairs, and I want to encourage you to join us in our conversations and activities. You can benefit from our many exciting professional development opportunities such as our virtual discussion groups. You can network with other librarians who face the same challenges and struggles you do. DLS members have a wide range of interests in online and distance learning, including access, assessment, advocacy, continuing education, instruction, standards, and best practices. I also encourage you, if you have not done so, to review the newly revised Standards for Distance Learning Library Services, a guiding document for anyone working with online or distance students.

Join us on Twitter and Facebook to learn about upcoming events. Post questions or ideas to DLS-L. We want to hear from you!

Thanks!
Stefanie Buck
