Currently, the IM group is preparing to migrate to Trillian Pro, which will allow us to support Gtalk. We will run a pilot program for providing service over Yahoo!, MSN, Gtalk, and AIM over the winter break. We plan to fully expand the service to these protocols in Spring 2008.
The IM group has decided to delay using embedded widgets due to the inconsistency of web-based IM clients, such as Meebo. Other libraries have reported, and our own testing revealed, repeated instances of dropped messages and service availability. We continue to test the available services and hope to provide embedded chat within the next year.
