75th Anniversary Scholarship Recipient: Michael Luther
As part of the celebration of ACRL’s 75th Anniversary, we’ve asked the ACRL 75th Anniversary scholarship recipients to describe the impact of attending the ACRL 2015 Conference on their professional life and/or their library.
Michael Luther is the Assessment Librarian at the Kennesaw State University Library System in Kennesaw, Georgia.
“The 2015 ACRL Annual Conference in Portland marked my first time as an attendee. I was fortunate to receive one of the Early Career Librarian Scholarships. This financial assistance was a real help to me and my organization. My Director and Dean have made it a priority to support conference attendance, both to absorb new ideas and to share our own scholarship with professional peers, but the budget for such support is often limited.
While at the conference, I presented a poster and attended many excellent sessions. Upon returning home, I was invited to write up the contents of the poster for a peer-reviewed journal. I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome.
ACRL is, in my opinion, where it’s at. I would highly recommend the conference to anyone with an interest in cutting-edge academic librarianship. That such generous scholarships are available only sweetens the offer, giving many an opportunity to attend who might not otherwise be able to do so.”
