75th Anniversary Scholarship Recipient: Paul M. Mascarenas
As part of the celebration of ACRL’s 75th Anniversary, we’ve asked the ACRL 75th Anniversary scholarship recipients to describe the impact of attending the ACRL 2015 Conference on their professional life and/or their library.
Paul M. Mascarenas is the Reference Librarian at Regis University in Denver, Colorado.
“Attending the ACRL Conference in Portland was an extremely edifying experience. Being a recipient of the scholarship gave me a chance to attend the conference of which I am very thankful.
There were several learning opportunities at this year’s ACRL Conference from the dynamic keynote speakers to the huge selection of poignant and interesting workshops & panel sessions. I attended as many as I felt would apply to my current role as a research and instruction librarian.
There was no shortage of relevant tracks. Not only did the conference provide fantastic speakers and sessions but poster sessions. It inspires a new librarian to see what other librarians are doing in their communities. I also learned about the experiences of other academic librarians of color.
This conference is a must for new librarians as well as librarians that have served for several years. I brought back a new perspective and new teaching strategies for many of my classes here at Regis University. I hope other librarians are able to attend through continued support by scholarships like the one I received for ACRL.”
