75th Anniversary Scholarship Recipient: Melanie J. Meyers
As part of the celebration of ACRL’s 75th Anniversary, we’ve asked the ACRL 75th Anniversary scholarship recipients to describe the impact of attending the ACRL 2015 Conference on their professional life and/or their library.
Melanie J. Meyers is the Senior Reference Services Librarian, Special Collections for The Center for Jewish History in New York, NY.
“I had never attended the ACRL conference before, and I would have been unable to attend without the support I received from my scholarship. It was a great experience, and I am very much looking forward to attending again in Baltimore; as an active RBMS section member, I think we need to try and reach out more to ACRL and show our support.
I would also like to say that the introduction of the mid-career scholarship is just wonderful. While I think our support of early career librarians is very important, we don’t always reach out as much to the mid-career people, who often have minimal support for conference attendance and professional development. In these days of shrinking travel budgets and resources, reaching out to mid-career people was a fantastic idea, and I hope other sections/divisions follow suit.
Many thanks, ACRL!”
