We’ve asked the ACRL 2017 Conference scholarship recipients to describe the impact of attending the ACRL 2017 Conference on their professional life and/or their library.
Alia Gant is a diversity resident librarian at Penn State University in University Park, PA.
“In March of 2017, I had the opportunity to attend my first ACRL Conference in Baltimore. At first I was overall overwhelmed by the sheer size and amount of attendees. However, those feelings quickly changed by the kindness these same attendees showed me. I enjoyed all the sessions I was able see and learned a plethora of information concerning my passion for librarianship. I appreciated the times I was able to network with colleagues and hear their narratives concerning their institutions, but the overall field. I especially loved the opportunity to listen to incredible keynote speakers, and even met Dr. Carla Hayden! As a graduate from the University of Texas at Austin’s School of Information in 2016, this was an incredible experience for me while having my first professional librarian position. I am so grateful for this once in a lifetime opportunity. I cannot wait for my next ACRL Conference. Here I come Cleveland!”
