We’ve asked the ACRL 2017 Conference scholarship recipients to describe the impact of attending the ACRL 2017 Conference on their professional life and/or their library.
Justin de la Cruz is the unit head for e-learning technologies at the Atlanta University Center in Atlanta, GA.
“By attending ACRL 2017, I was able to: reconnect with colleagues I otherwise would not have seen; meet new contacts in my area of library work (emerging technologies); and discover new ideas from panels, posters, and roundtable discussions. In particular, I was exposed to several ideas on how feminist theory can be used to analyze several aspects of librarianship, from emotional labor to gender stereotypes. The conference provided a much-needed intellectual exchange that continues to reverberate through the work I currently do at my library. Thank you for maintaining the scholarship program, which I think is an essential aspect of any professional organization: to provide professional development opportunities for those who may not otherwise have access to them.”
