We’ve asked the ACRL 2017 Conference scholarship recipients to describe the impact of attending the ACRL 2017 Conference on their professional life and/or their library.
Michelle Reed is an open education librarian at the University of Texas at Arlington in Arlington, TX.
“As presenters for an ACRL-licensed workshop, I and my colleagues had the opportunity to present a brief “showcase” of our workshop with the goals of generating more interest in the intersections of scholarly communication and information literacy and recruiting host organizations for the full-day workshop. Prior to our presentation at ACRL, we’d received little interest from potential hosts. Following our ACRL presentation, however, inquiries about the workshop increased dramatically and we have since booked four in-person workshops to be held in summer and fall of this year. This exemplifies one of the things I value most about attending the ACRL conference—that it offers opportunities to share our work and connect with colleagues from all over the world who have similar interests.”
