We’ve asked the ACRL 2017 Conference scholarship recipients to describe the impact of attending the ACRL 2017 Conference on their professional life and/or their library.
Susan Powell is the GIS and map librarian at the University of California, Berkeley in Berkeley, CA.
“The ACRL New Librarian Scholarship made it possible for me to attend my first ever ACRL. I had heard for years from colleagues about what a great conference ACRL is for academic librarians, and I was not disappointed! I was impressed with the presentations and panels I attended and often wished I was able to be in several places at once. The poster sessions were particularly inspiring, where I could talk with the presenters to learn more detail about the challenges and insights they encountered in their work. I came away from the conference re-inspired about my work and with many new ideas for improving my instruction. One of my favorite things about the ACRL Conference was re-connecting with friends and colleagues from library school.
I send my sincerest thanks to the ACRL community of scholarship supporters and organizers for making it possible for me to attend ACRL 2017. I hope to attend many more ACRL Conferences in the future!”
