Distance Mentorship Beta Program!

Hello Distance Learning Section members! Are you new to serving distance and online students and want to expand your professional knowledge/skills? Or are you an experienced librarian willing to share your knowledge to help others develop their skills? The DLS Mentoring and Networking Committee invites you to participate in the launch of our DLS Mentorship BETA program!

Participants will be paired (mentor/mentee) by the end of December, and the beta program will then run from January 6, 2020 to June 30, 2020. Space is limited as we are currently accepting a total of 10 mentor applications and 10 mentee applications for the beta. The beta program is available on a first come, first served basis, but if you apply after we have reached our cap, we will save your information for when the full mentorship program launches in Fall 2020!

Program Timeline: Applications for mentors and mentees will be open October 14 to November 15, 2019. During the months of November and December, the DLS Mentoring and Networking Committee will match mentors with mentees based on intended areas of professional growth (as well as applicant pool and availability). On December 20, 2019, applicants will be contacted with their mentor or mentee name and contact information. The program officially begins January 6, 2020. We recommend mentors get in touch with their mentees early in the program to set goals using the DLS Goal Sheet that will be provided. At the end of the program in June, participants will be asked to complete a survey to assist our committee in collecting data on what worked well in the beta, what can be improved for the fall launch, and assessing the program overall.

Requirements for Participation: All participants in the DLS Mentoring Program must be current members of ACRL and DLS, and have an interest in serving distance/online students. Mentors should have experience serving distance/online students in librarianship, through research, through service participation, or all three.

How to Apply: Fill out the appropriate application at the link below before our November 15 deadline!
