Inclusive Pedagogy Committee

Charge:
The Inclusive Pedagogy Committee creates opportunities for instruction librarians to learn more about inclusive, anti-oppressive pedagogy and implement these teaching practices in their own academic contexts. Committee projects may include, but are not limited to, hosting professional development sessions such as webinars and online chats, and publishing columns or reports related to inclusive pedagogy. Committee work may focus on, for example, supporting marginalized and/or underrepresented populations in higher education, highlighting trends in inclusive teaching practices, and/or developing anti-oppressive learning enviro.

Annual Planning:

Meetings:
The committee meets virtually at least twice a year.

Publications:
Library Instruction for Diverse Populations Bibliography – includes resources key to the development of effective methods and materials for providing library instruction and teaching information literacy competencies to diverse student groups.

Multilingual Glossary for Today’s Library Users – includes a language table of commonly-used library terms presented in seven languages, and definitions for each term in English. These documents are designed to assist ESL speakers and the librarians who work with them.

Projects:
Webinars – in 2017-18, the committee hosted its first webinar in collaboration with the ACRL Library Marketing and Outreach Interest Group. The committee continues to host webinars of interest to library community.

Library Instruction for Diverse Populations Bibliography – the committee maintains and updates this publication by reviewing, researching new content, and updating and promoting the bibliography.

Multilingual Glossary for Today’s Library Users – the committee maintains and updates this publication by identifying new terms to add, soliciting volunteers to review or create translations, and updating and promoting the glossary.
