75th Anniversary Scholarship Recipient: Ashley L. Downs
As part of the celebration of ACRL’s 75th Anniversary, we’ve asked the ACRL 75th Anniversary scholarship recipients to describe the impact of attending the ACRL 2015 Conference on their professional life and/or their library.
Ashley L. Downs is the Food and Agriculture Librarian at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
“My ACRL highlights include the keynotes by G. Willow Wilson, Jad Abumrad and Lawrence Lessig. Each was wildly inspirational and achieved what all keynote speakers strive for: a potent reminder of why we joined the profession in the first place. In the daily shuffle of academia, amidst meetings, proposals and other routine responsibilities, it’s easy to lose sight of the passion that drove us to librarianship. Each of this year’s speakers tapped the passion, energizing the audience to press on–and perhaps press on harder than before–amidst budget constraints, a changing society and shifts in higher education. Thanks to the scholarship award, I was able to be part of the audience and feel part of something much larger than our sometimes small academic bubble.”
