75th Anniversary Scholarship Recipient: Tammy E. Ivins

As part of the celebration of ACRL’s 75th Anniversary, we’ve asked the ACRL 75th Anniversary scholarship recipients to describe the impact of attending the ACRL 2015 Conference on their professional life and/or their library.

Ivins, TammyTammy E. Ivins is the Transfer Student Services Librarian at the University of North Carolina – Wilmington.

“ACRL 2015 restored my faith in library conferences! After several experiences being disappointed by a lack of relevant sessions at both ALA and local conferences, I was delighted to spend several days learning skills and discussing issues actually relevant to my work as an academic librarian.

It helped my library, as I was able to have one-on-one meetings with my vendors, including one with which I was able to negotiate a new deal. Of course, experiences like that were also educational for me. Many of the skills I learned at ACRL were useful in my application process for my new exciting position at UNC-Wilmington.

I have revised my professional involvement plan to allow me to regularly attend ACRL, instead of other library conferences, because I know that it will be the best value/return on my time and money.”
