75th Anniversary Scholarship Recipient: Patrick W. Lee

As part of the celebration of ACRL’s 75th Anniversary, we’ve asked the ACRL 75th Anniversary scholarship recipients to describe the impact of attending the ACRL 2015 Conference on their professional life and/or their library.

Patrick W. Lee is a recent graduate of the School of Library and Information Studies at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

“The ACRL scholarship helped me in a variety of ways; first and foremost it allowed me to communicate with other professionals in the field.  Before coming to ACRL, I only had the opportunity to talk to library school instructors and librarians on my campus.  Although they were such a great help, it was incredibly helpful to see what other institutions practiced.  As a library school student at the time, I hadn’t had much practice ‘talking the talk,’ when it came to librarianship (and particularly information literacy).  In attending the conference I was able to ‘practice’ speaking with other librarians and it really gave me some bearings.  Finally, I had a potential employer say that having that on my resume made me a ‘standout’ for an interview.  It definitely helped me out in the job hunt in a multitude of ways.”
