75th Anniversary Scholarship Recipient: Kimberly Shotick

As part of the celebration of ACRL’s 75th Anniversary, we’ve asked the ACRL 75th Anniversary scholarship recipients to describe the impact of attending the ACRL 2015 Conference on their professional life and/or their library.

Kimberly Shotick is the E-Learning Librarian at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago.

“Budget cuts are the new normal for most libraries. The first things to go are usually travel funds. When I was accepted to present a preconference session at ACRL 2015 I worried about how I would be able to attend. I was a new nursing mother, and I had to bring my husband and infant with, increasing the expense. Without the scholarship I don’t know that I would have been able to present, an opportunity that helped me secure a tenure track position that I recently accepted. Also, I was able to take back new ideas, such as promoting OERs to faculty in order to help our cash-strapped students afford their education. I am grateful for the donors who make these scholarships possible. Thank you.”
