75th Anniversary Scholarship Recipient: Katy Kavanagh Webb
As part of the celebration of ACRL’s 75th Anniversary, we’ve asked the ACRL 75th Anniversary scholarship recipients to describe the impact of attending the ACRL 2015 Conference on their professional life and/or their library.
Katy Kavanagh Webb is the Head, Research and Instructional Services at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.
“I attended the 2015 ACRL Conference in Portland on an Early-Career Librarian conference scholarship. I was also selected to co-present a poster about a UX project at my library. As a direct result of that poster, I received an email from an editor of a journal that had seen our poster at the conference expressing interest in our topic. We have just submitted a scholarly article to the journal and are waiting to hear if it will be published! In addition to the publishing opportunity, the contacts I made due to the conference were wonderful. In the process of writing a thank-you note to a contributor of the scholarship, I realized that the librarian I was contacting not only worked in a similar job to mine, but she also works in my hometown (over 1,500 miles away). We have begun an email correspondence that has lasted well beyond the conference, and I hope to meet her in person at a future ACRL.”
