Meet the ACRL Presidents: Tyrone H. Cannon
Over the course of ACRL’s 75th anniversary celebration, we’ll highlight the association’s history by profiling our past presidents. Tyrone H. Cannon is Library Dean at the University of San Francisco and served as ACRL President from 2003-2004.
1. Three words to describe your ACRL presidency: To borrow from my theme – partnerships, connections, strategic collaborations.
2. What is your most enduring memory of your presidential year? Working to establish “Charting our Future: ACRL Strategic Plan 2020.” The Board and staff worked very hard and very well together to develop. The seven-day ALA Conferences to get the work done! Traveling around the country to present the ACRL Excellence in Academic Libraries Awards.
3. What are you most proud of accomplishing during your presidential year and why? I am most proud of the work to complete “Charting Our Future.” I believe its impact and direction still influences what drives the association. It provided a wonderful collaborative foundation. Being the 65th president of ACRL was one of my career highlights!
4. Any advice for future ACRL presidents? Find as many opportunities as you can to meet and interact with members. Hang loose and enjoy your year and never lose your sense of humor.
