Meet the ACRL Presidents: W. Lee Hisle

Lee HisleOver the course of ACRL’s 75th anniversary celebration, we’ll highlight the association’s history by profiling our past presidents. W. Lee Hisle served as ACRL President from 1997-1998.

1. Three words to describe your ACRL presidency: Values. Advocacy. Service.

2. What is your most enduring memory of your presidential year? The resonance I felt talking to librarians across the country about the core (and changing) values of our profession.

3. What are you most proud of accomplishing during your presidential year and why? Starting a larger conversation within ALA about the core values of librarianship.

4. Any advice for future ACRL presidents? Be prepared for a fantastic experience and to be humbled by your responsibility to our profession, yet energized by new opportunities, experiences and the librarians you’ll meet.
