Meet the ACRL Presidents: Philip James McNiff
Philip James McNiff (1912-1994) was the 32nd president of ACRL, serving from 1969-1970. During that time, he was also director and librarian of the Boston Public Library. Under his leadership, the Planning and Action Committee continued its analysis of ACRL’s role as a division of ALA and the reorganization of ALA as a whole. “Standards for Faculty Status for College and University Librarians” was published in C&RL News for membership comment. Philip’s work was published in College & Research Libraries, Library Quarterly, Library Resources & Technical Services, Library Trends, Library Journal, and Harvard Library Bulletin. He also published Catalogue of the Lamont Library, Harvard College (1953) and List of Book Dealers in Underdeveloped Countries (1963).
