2020 ACRL Scholarly Communication RoadShow Hosts Announced

SC subsidized workshops

The ACRL Research and Scholarly Environment Committee has selected five sites to host the “Scholarly Communication: From Understanding to Engagement” RoadShow workshop at a subsidized rate in 2020. Recognizing that scholarly communication issues are central to the work of all academic librarians and all types of institutions, ACRL is underwriting the bulk of the costs of bringing this proven content to sites across the country.

The institutions selected to host the 2020 RoadShows are:

  • California State University, Sacramento (Sacramento, CA)
  • Central Washington University (Ellensburg, WA)
  • St. Cloud State University (St Cloud, MN)
  • University of Iowa (Iowa City, IA)
  • University of Memphis (Memphis, TN)

Academic and research librarians increasingly recognize scholarly communication as a core competency of the profession. Through the workshop, ACRL seeks to empower participants to help accelerate the transformation of the scholarly communication system. Led by two expert presenters, this structured and interactive overview of the scholarly communication system focuses on scholarly communication fundamentals including open access, copyright, and library engagement, and provides an opportunity for host communities to explore deep dives into selected topics that reflect the most exciting and pressing issues in the field today.

Host sites are partnering with other institutions and organizations in their area to extend the reach to as diverse an audience as possible. Library staff, including liaison librarians, catalogers, access services and senior management from two-year, liberal arts, master’s, comprehensive, and doctoral institutions will attend the workshops.

In addition to the competitive subsidized version, the Scholarly Communication workshop is part of ACRL’s slate of day-long RoadShows that can be brought year-round at full cost to your campus, chapter, or consortium. Please contact ACRL Program Officer Chase Ollis at collis@ala.org with questions or to discuss dates and locations, pricing, and for complete workshop details.
