ACRL Fostering Change Cohort – Call for Facilitators

The ACRL New Roles and Changing Landscapes Committee seeks up to two facilitators to help launch an online cohort program based on the recent Fostering Change publication. This new professional development program will debut in Summer 2021 for teams of librarians, library workers, and/or administrators from institutions planning an organizational change. The group of facilitators will help to shape and guide the structure of this six-week program.

The ideal program facilitator is an academic library worker with an interest in and experience with leading change. This change practitioner may have been involved in an organization-wide change, or led a smaller change within their program or area. The committee welcomes applicants with a broad variety of experiences and approaches to change, and from various points in their careers. 

ACRL has made a Core Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and particularly to building leadership opportunities for racially and ethnically underrepresented colleagues. The Board expects this commitment to permeate the work of the association, including all its professional development.

Desired Experiences, Skills, and Knowledge

The committee is looking for program facilitators who can help to design and implement the inaugural Fostering Change cohort program. Applicants with different experiences and backgrounds, at different stages of their career, from underrepresented communities, and those from nondominant identity groups are welcome. You might be relatively new to your position in libraries or have many years of educational experience, inside or outside of libraries. You might have deep knowledge or experience in a single area, or a range of experiences and skills in multiple areas. The committee is particularly interested in applicants who have:

  • experience with or knowledge of change management strategies
  • experience with or knowledge of equity-centered design or participatory design
  • experience with or knowledge of inclusive and/or anti-racist change strategies
  • facilitation experience, with a preference for those trained in anti-oppressive techniques
  • experience or interest in change management among diverse groups of library workers
  • collaborative project planning experience

 Expectations of Fostering Change Program Facilitators

  • active engagement and collaboration in planning the six-week summer cohort experience (anticipated 3 to 4 hours in May and June 2021)
  • weekly participation during the six-week summer program in synchronous and asynchronous discussions with teams, 1-on-1 coaching calls, and planning meetings (anticipated 1 to 2 hours each week during July and August 2021)
  • suggest revisions and/or additions to the Fostering Change text (and receive co-author credit)
  • following the program, participate in assessment of the program and incorporate feedback into the design of subsequent cohorts

The single PDF application must be submitted via email by 5 p.m. Eastern on Friday, April 9, 2021, to ACRL Content Strategist Erin Nevius at Finalists will be notified by April 23, 2021, and interviewed virtually or by phone. Facilitators will receive an honorarium for the design and planning of the cohort, and for the facilitation of the program.
