Celebrate Preservation Week 2024!

April 28–May 4, 2024, is Preservation Week, sponsored by Core: Leadership, Infrastructure, Futures. Preservation Week inspires action to preserve your collections. We believe that memories and treasures should last a lifetime and beyond, and that these physical and digital materials support both community and cultural identities. Focusing on preservation for a designated week every year raises awareness of the role libraries and other cultural institutions play in preservation, by sharing information to help make informed decisions that help your collections last for the future.

The 2024 Preservation Week theme is Preserving Identities and this year’s honorary chair is Traci Sorell who writes inclusive, award-winning historical and contemporary fiction and nonfiction in a variety of formats for young people. She is a two-time Sibert Medal and Orbis Pictus honoree and an award-winning audiobook narrator and producer.

ACRL has a number of resources to help you celebrate Preservation Week this year.

Free Resources From RBMS

ACRL’s Rare Books & Manuscripts Section (RBMS) has developed many freely available resources for those working with rare collections and materials, including:

You can find these and more on the RBMS website.

If these topics are of interest to you, dig deeper with RBM: A Journal of Rare Books, Manuscripts, and Cultural Heritage, ACRL’s journal covering issues pertaining to special collections libraries and cultural heritage institutions.

Attend the upcoming RBMS 2024 Conference, “Momentum,” an immersive exploration of how we can leverage the invaluable lessons, experiences, and progress of the past three years to propel our profession towards greater equity, diversity, inclusivity, and community engagement. This conference will delve into critical questions: How do we reignite and sustain vital initiatives in both physical and virtual realms? How can we maintain momentum in a landscape where change often comes in small steps? Discover the keys to fostering and sustaining momentum in collaborative partnerships with fellow librarians, special collections experts, booksellers, and museum curators.
