ACRL announces the appointment of Kristen Totleben to the post of editor for College & Research Libraries (C&RL). Totleben will serve an initial three-year term beginning July 1, 2022.
“The ACRL Board of Directors is thrilled to name Kristen Totleben as the next editor of C&RL,” said ACRL President Julie Garrison of Western Michigan University. “Her experience and familiarity with the ACRL publication program, knowledge of editorial processes and the scholarly communication landscape, and emphasis on collaboration between the editor, editorial board, and authors, make her the ideal candidate to lead the journal. We look forward to this next chapter for C&RL and thank outgoing editor Wendi Kaspar for service to the journal.”
Totleben will serve as editor designate from July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2022, when she will assume full editorial responsibility. In the position of editor, Totleben will also serve as chair of the C&RL Editorial Board. She succeeds Wendi Arant Kaspar, Professor of Library Practice at Texas A&M University, as C&RL editor. Kaspar will work closely with Totleben over the next year to ensure a smooth transition.
“It’s a personal dream to help advance C&RL as in-coming editor,” Totleben said. “I am excited to work with the editorial board and Wendi Arant Kaspar, along with all the authors and reviewers, during the transition to disseminate and support research in the profession.”
“The search committee was impressed by Totleben’s wide experience with ACRL publications and commitment to moving the journal forward while retaining its reputation for rigorous and significant scholarship,” added Julia M. Gelfand, chair of the C&RL Editor Search Committee and past-chair of the ACRL Publications Coordinating Committee. “She will be a great asset in sustaining C&RL as the premier open access, peer-reviewed scholarly journal for academic and research librarianship.”
Totleben currently serves as Librarian for Modern Languages & Cultures at the University of Rochester’s River Campus Libraries. As part of her record of publishing, editing, and reviewing scholarly and non-scholarly professional writing, she was a member of the C&RL Editorial Board (2020), the International Journal of Content Knowledge & Technology Editorial Board (2018-present), and an editorial board member for the openly published book, Open Pedagogy Approaches: Library, Faculty and Student Collaborations. In addition, she served as vice-chair (2018-19) and chair (2019-2020) of the ACRL Publications Coordinating Committee.
Published since 1939, C&RL is the open access, online-only scholarly research journal of ACRL.
