Meet the Candidates: LeRoy LaFleur

LeRoyLaFleurLeRoy LaFleur is Associate Director of Library Services at the Tufts University Fletcher School Ginn Library in Medford, Massachusetts, and a 2016 candidate for the ACRL Board of Directors as Councilor.

1. Describe yourself in three words: Enthusiastic, Engaged, Diplomatic.

2. What are you reading right now (or listening to on your mobile device)? Reading: Eleven Days by Lea Carpenter. Listening to: Black Tapes podcast, Serial podcast.

3. Describe ACRL in three words: Learning, Networking, Future-Looking.

4. Why do you value about ACRL? I really value the relationships I have built over the years with colleagues in libraries all over the world. I enjoy the opportunity to learn new things, and to be an active participant in an organization that is always looking forward while considering the importance and significance of the past.

5. What do you, as an academic librarian, contribute to your campus? As an academic librarian providing research and instructional services to students, I directly contribute by assisting both faculty and students with locating and acquiring the resources they need to advance their research. Beyond my subject area expertise in the social sciences, I also contribute my leadership experience and knowledge on matters of scholarly communications and organization development. I’m a good listener, and an avid collaborator!

6. In your own words: I love my job as an academic librarian, and even more so as a library administrator working with a team of professionals to create and improve research services for faculty and students. In my opinion, working as an academic research librarian is a fantastic job! In addition to our work as educators, we serve as members of a broader academic community that includes students, faculty, and other campus staff members. Beyond the research and scholarship, the classes, and the collections, in many cases, the campus is literally a home to thousands of individuals, looking to make meaning and experience things together!
