1. Describe yourself in three words: Curious, Engaged, Optimistic.

2. What are you reading right now? I’m currently reading The Sparrow by one of my favorite authors, Maria Doria Russell. I’m also reading Disciplinary Discourses: Social Interactions in Academic Writing, by Ken Hyland in order to better understand how language shapes the discourse of various fields of study and apply that to how I provide instruction to students in specific disciplines.

3. Describe ACRL in three words: Community, Opportunity, Involvement.

4. Why did you join ACRL? I wanted to become part of a larger community of academic librarians who are dedicated to the profession and who are willing to share their wisdom and experience. As someone who is relatively new to the field, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by how much there is to know. I’ve found the best education I’ve had is from individuals who have been generous enough to share their knowledge with me.

5. What do you value about academic or research librarianship? I value the diversity in my every day work experiences and the freedom to be innovative and creative with how I spend my time. I also enjoy working with students and showing them things that I wish I had known when I was still in school.

6. In your own words: I feel so fortunate to have discovered librarianship as a career. I can’t imagine any other field in which I would feel like there was so much potential for growth, both personally and for the profession as a whole. There is a great deal of room for innovation and creativity and the constant state of change keeps things interesting for me. There are so many facets to academic librarianship and I appreciate being able to push the boundaries of my experience on a daily basis.
