Member of the Week: Lucretia McCulley

Lucretia McCulleyLucretia McCulley is Director of Outreach Services at the University of Richmond Boatwright Memorial Library in Richmond, VA.  Lucretia has been an ACRL member since 1985 and is your ACRL member of the week.

1. Describe yourself in three words: Curious, Persistent, Dedicated.

2. What are you reading right now? A Wasted Vigil by Nadeem Aslam.

3. Describe ACRL in three words: Supportive, Informative, Focused.

4. Why did you join ACRL? To network with other academic librarians and to stay current on new and emerging issues within academic librarianship

5. What do you value about academic or research librarianship? At the end of each work day, I always value my interaction with library users–assisting and teaching students, staff and faculty.

6. In your own words: Academic librarianship opens up new knowledge and learning each day, for both myself and users. The intersection of content knowledge and research skills is a great example of educational collaboration and I continue to be excited about the process after 30 years in the profession.  I started my career in academic librarianship in 1981–the year the PC was introduced–and it’s been an adventure every day since then!

  1. Congrats to my sister…who indeed got me to get my first email address and get “online” in the early nineties. She is most definitely a leader in her field.

  2. Congratulations from your mother and Ted. No one is more deserving or worthy of ACRL’s choice of you as person of the week.

  3. Congratulations. In 30 years Dan has had 1 great wife but how many PCs has he gone throught in that time. So remember when it hurts to get out of bed in the morning that you’re holding up better than a PC. You can even talk when you first wake up, however it takes Bill Gate’s software minutes before a PC is useful.

  4. Congratulations Lucretia. This is very good and to know that you continue to inspire colleagues, and users to be the best that they can be.
