Thriving as a Mid-Career Librarian: A Three-Part Webinar Series

Join ACRL on Friday, October 27; Friday, November 3; and Friday, November 17, 2023. for the three-part webinar series “Thriving as a Mid-Career Librarian.”

During this interactive three-part webcast series, the editors and authors of the recent book Thriving as a Mid-Career Librarian: Identity, Advocacy, and Pathways take a deep dive into the realities of being a mid-career librarian through the perspectives of how identity, advocacy, and leadership manifest themselves in this stage of a librarian’s career. The webcasts will be presented as interactive panels with chapter authors and help librarians reflect on sustaining themselves in their careers.

Webinar One: The Role of Identity and Advocacy in Your Mid-Career (Friday, October 27, 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. Central): In this webinar, panelists will discuss the ways in which identity intersects with their careers and will offer suggestions on how to overcome barriers. They will also focus on steps that can be taken in order to better advocate for yourself in the long-term.

Webinar Two: To Lead or Not to Lead (Friday, November 3, 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. Central): In this webinar, panelists will discuss the many, very individualized factors that led them to seek leadership roles, step down from them, or not pursue them. They will provide participants with guiding questions about whether, when, and how to pursue leadership in libraries.

Webinar Three: Staying Engaged in Your Career (Friday, November 17, 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. Central): In this webinar, panelists will discuss varied strategies for staying engaged throughout mid-career and beyond. They will explore how to manage feelings of plateauing and the unexpected places they’ve found to engage, advocate, and give back. Participants will come away with ideas for ways to sustain their interest and professional development in the next phase in their careers.
