Volunteer for ACRL AI Competencies for Library Workers Task Force by April 10

The ACRL Board of Directors has approved the establishment of the ACRL AI Competencies for Library Workers Task Force. The new task force is charged by the Board to develop a set of comprehensive AI competencies for library workers that align with the evolving needs of academic libraries in the context of AI integration.

ACRL Vice-President/President-Elect Leo Lo invites you to volunteer to serve on the task force. If you wish to be considered for an appointment, please review the information below and complete the volunteer form by 5:00 p.m. Central on April 10, 2024.

Task Force Tasks

  • Identify and analyze the specific needs and roles of library workers in relation to AI.
  • Review existing ACRL standards and frameworks for AI relevance and integration.
  • Engage with various stakeholders to gather insights and feedback.
  • Develop a set of essential AI competencies for library professionals as needed.
  • Provide recommendations to the board on the implementation and dissemination of the developed competencies across the profession.

Composition

  • 1 Chair
  • 8-10 members: A diverse group of library professionals, individuals who possess specialized knowledge and skills in the field of Artificial Intelligence, and academic stakeholders preferred.
  • 1 ACRL Board of Directors Liaison
  • 1 ACRL Staff Liaison
  • Additional member appointments at the discretion of the Vice-President/President-Elect.

Timeline

  • Date interim report is due: 6 months from task force establishment. (TF established March 2024; interim report will be due at the 2024 ACRL Fall Board Virtual Meeting.)
  • Date final report is due: 12 months from task force establishment. (TF established March 2024; final report will be due at the 2025 ACRL Spring Board Virtual Meeting.)

Please note that volunteers must be current members in good standing of ALA/ACRL and must remain so for the duration of their appointment.

Note: Due to the timeline of this task force, the process is separate from the annual division-level and section appointments.
