ACRL 2017 Scholarship Campaign: A Letter from the Campaign Chair

Dear ACRL Colleagues,

“I came back to my library inspired and filled with a sense of belonging.” “I’m a better librarian today because of the connections I made.” “I am evidence that donors who provide financial assistance to attend ACRL validate new librarians as important and influential to conversations about librarianship.” These voices represent a few of the 179 ACRL Conference scholarship recipients who benefited from your support of the 2015 ACRL Kickstart the Future Campaign.

#404a97 Raised $61,500 towards the $50,000 target.

In 2017 we want to ensure that the newest voices of our profession are included and their energy harnessed to move libraries forward in the higher education community. Our members who most need this experience are new to the field and still in graduate school and can least afford to attend ACRL’s premier professional development offering. Your contribution of any amount will provide scholarships for our new professionals and students to attend the ACRL 2017 Conference and help to ensure the future vitality of the profession, the higher education community, and the association. We invite you to invest in the profession’s future leaders as they seek to gain the experience, knowledge, and connections needed to advance learning and transform scholarship in the 21st century.

ACRL seeks to raise $50,000 by December 31, 2016, to provide 75 additional scholarships for these members to attend the conference to be held March 22-25, in Baltimore, Maryland. We’ve already raised more than $26,000 during the advance phase of the campaign.

Thank you to all of the ACRL groups which are raising money to support the campaign. More information on individual group goals and progress is available on this page.

Supporting scholarships is, to me, the perfect way to celebrate and acknowledge the association’s contributions to the professional development and education of academic librarians and I hope you will join me and contribute today.

Lori Goetsch
Chair, ACRL 2017 Conference Scholarship Campaign

I plan on paying forward a portion of my saved costs to the ACRL 2017 scholarship fund. While I can never repay the generosity of the ACRL 2015 donors, I hope you’ll join me in supporting the next generation of academic librarian leaders by donating to the ACRL 2017 scholarship fund.

Without the scholarship award, I would not have learned how much I love ACRL and want to continue to be a part of the organization, take on more leadership roles, and attend future conferences.
