We’ve asked the ACRL 2017 Conference scholarship recipients to describe the impact of attending the ACRL 2017 Conference on their professional life and/or their library.
April L. James is a student at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA.
“I did enjoy attending ACRL 2017 in Baltimore, and look forward to attending many more conferences. I made so many connections, was inspired by presentations, took in moments of calm in the Zen Room, and felt energized by my choice of career. The ACRL “business card suitcase” given to each scholarship recipient at the Scholarship Winners Breakfast proved quite handy to me during the course of the week. Mine is chock-full of cards, and even though it’s been two months, I haven’t yet had time to follow up with everyone whose card I collected—but I will!
I was especially inspired by Dr. Carla Hayden’s speech. If an academic librarian position doesn’t open up for me, perhaps the Library of Congress will have a place for me. (I got to meet her and have my photo taken with her!) Thank you ACRL and all the donors who made my attendance at this conference possible. As I move from student to professional, I look forward to being able to pay your generosity forward.”
