We’ve asked the ACRL 2017 Conference scholarship recipients to describe the impact of attending the ACRL 2017 Conference on their professional life and/or their library.
Katelyn T. Burton is a reference and instruction librarian at Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke, VA.
“ACRL 2017 was my first national library conference, and the first conference I attended since becoming a community college librarian. I wouldn’t have been able to attend without a scholarship, and I would have missed out on an amazing experience. I am the only teaching librarian at my college, and I was thrilled to get to meet other librarians from community colleges and share my experiences with them. The sessions I attended on critical pedagogy, inclusion and equity, and open education helped me refocus my own practice. I was also able to share what I learned with my colleagues, which is so valuable in an organization with limited travel funding.”
