ALA Connect FAQ
How do I join the CJCLS Community?
Anyone can join, you don't have to be an ALA, ACRL, or CJCLS member.
Follow these one-time steps:
- If you don't already have an ALA login, visit this ALA webpage and follow the prompts to create a login.
- Once you've created and confirmed your login, visit the CJCLS Community webpage.
- Click the big blue JOIN COMMUNITY button which is just below the blue menu bar. If you don’t see the button, click the Login link in the upper right corner of the page and then the button should appear.
- You will now be prompted to select how you wish to receive posts to the community. Under Discussion Notifications, select whether you’d like to receive all posts in a daily digest or each post in real time.
- Click Yes join the community, and you’re in!
Can I receive CJCLS discussion messages in email like I did with the old listserv?
You can receive new posts in email after this one-time setup:
- Log in to https://connect.ala.org
- From the blue menu bar at the top, select My Connect and then Community Notification Settings.
- Scroll down to the red Notification Settings heading.
- In the list of communities, find ACRL Community and Junior College Libraries Section and use the drop-down menu to set Discussion Email to “Real Time” (one email for each post).
- Your setting is automatically saved.

I receive my messages in a Daily Digest, but I want to receive them one at a time. Is this possible?
Yes, you can receive messages individually instead of in digest form. Here’s how:
- Log in to https://connect.ala.org
- From the blue menu bar at the top, select My Connect and then Community Notification Settings.
- Scroll down to the red Notification Settings heading.
- In the list of communities, find ACRL Community and Junior College Libraries Section and use the drop-down menu to set Discussion Email to “Real Time” (one email for each post).
- Your setting is automatically saved.
- When you receive individual messages/posts, you can reply to the email and your reply will post to the community.
How do I get help with ALA Connect? I'm having issues such as, not receiving community messages, messages being delivered to my Spam folder, can't log in, can't post...
Please contact the folks who support ALA Connect and they'll be glad to help: https://connect.ala.org/contactus
I want to receive my CJCLS Community emails at a different address. Is this possible?
Yes, you can set an email address for CJCLS Community messages even if it differs from your main email address in ALA Connect. Here’s how:
- Log in to https://connect.ala.org
- From the blue menu bar at the top, select My Connect and then Community Notification Settings.
- Look for the Discussion Email header and click Add Override Addresses just below that.
- In the form that appears, enter the email address you wish to receive CJCLS Community messages.
- In the drop-down menu, selection ACRL Community and Junior College Libraries Section (and any other communities whose messages you wish to receive at this email address).
- Click Save to close the window.
Can I use email to post to the CJCLS Community in ALA Connect?
Yes! You can post without going through the ALA Connect website.
To post, email ALA-ACRL-CJCLS@ConnectedCommunity.org.
To reply to a post you receive in your email, simply reply to the email. Your reply will be posted to the community (not just sent to the original poster).
Can I use the daily digest format without having to log in to ALA Connect to read and reply?
Yes.
Instead of clicking on the subject lines at the top of the daily digest (which will take you to ALA Connect and ask you to log in), scroll down to the full posts. Next to each post is a link you can use to email a reply to the Community or the sender without logging into the website.
