What are my responsibilities on a committee?
Section officers and committee chairs have specific duties as outlined in the DOLS Section Manual. These duties can include submitting reports, communicating with other section officers and leadership, and attending meetings. Regular committee members are expected to attend regular physical and/or virtual meetings, and participate in projects and activities designated by the committee chair. Questions about the responsibilities of individual committees can be posed to committee chairs.
What opportunities are available?
There are 15 different committees within the Distance Learning Section, each with its own charge, activities and composition. Membership on committees rotates every two years so there are frequent opportunities to serve.

You’ll make valuable connections with library leaders who care about distance learning and the issues facing distance students and faculty. And you’ll have the opportunity to apply your unique experiences and skills to issues faced by distance learning librarians across the country.
As a committee member, you’ll find opportunities to network and develop your professional and leadership skills. You can enhance your project management experience and develop new expertise to apply at your home organization. You’ll also help to advance the library profession through your service and unique perspective.
