Agenda

I. Welcome and Introductions

II. Discussion

  • The WESS Germanist and Romance Languages Discussion Groups cordially invite you to a discussion about assessment of and making a case for language collections.
    • Use of German Language Collections at Yale University Library – A Deep Dive into the Data
    • Assessment Librarian Sarah Tudesco will present the results of a German collections assessment project. At Yale, librarians have been examining their collections strategy for the past 2 years, examining collections and the ways patrons use them. One of these projects involved a deep dive into their German language collections. They used the collections and circulation data from their Voyager system and built a collections dashboard in Tableau to build a German Collections dashboard. Sarah will present findings and discuss some of the questions that the study generated.
    • Following Tudesco‚Äôs presentation, we will have a general discussion about assessing foreign language collections. Some questions may include:
      • What assessment tools are being used?
      • Who is doing collection assessment? Collection management librarians and/or subject specialists?
      • How should foreign language materials be assessed? Are there considerations for foreign language materials given that the potential user base is lower than that for English materials?
      • What are some strategies for communicating usage and value to library administrators, faculty, and students?
