The Resident Librarian position at the Syracuse University Library provide a variety of experiences in a supportive setting. You’ll have opportunities to learn more about the basics and go beyond the traditional. We’ll be looking to you for fresh ideas and the energy to make them a reality here, or at least help us test them out and see what we all learn.

The Learning Commons Resident Librarian serves a two-year appointment. We encourage members of historically underrepresented groups (e.g. Asian American/Pacific Islander, Native American, Latino, African American, persons with disabilities) to apply.

This is an entry level, temporary, 24 month, benefits eligible position.


Reporting to the Director of the Learning Commons (LC), the LC Resident Librarian provides core services including reference, staff development training, and some instruction. This Resident Librarian will also create and develop an innovative project regarding technology in the Learning Commons, which will include project management, facilitation of a work team, advertising, and assessment. Resident Librarians also contribute in one or more of the following areas:

  • Service innovation
  • Creative advertising of LC services
  • Assessment of LC and library services, spaces, and furnishings
  • Planning and development of LC programs and facilities
  • Development of LC partnerships and collaborations


  • Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA accredited institution
  • Evidence of strong interest and success with emerging information technologies
  • Demonstrated interest in developing a career in academic librarianship
  • Evidence of commitment to strong user centered customer service
  • Adaptability and tolerance for ambiguity in a rapidly changing environment
  • Evidence of exceptional interpersonal skills, including ability to effectively communicate with diverse staff and users


$38,000/year. temporary, 24 month, benefits eligible position.
