Position Summary | The UNC Greensboro University Libraries is pleased to invite applications from early career librarians for our seventh Diversity Resident Librarian. The library residency program is intended to offer an opportunity for entry-level librarians with an interest in academic libraries to begin their professional careers and acquire core competencies and skills in research, scholarship, and instruction. The program allows the Resident the opportunity to work in up to three departments or functional areas to explore services and technologies and collaborate on projects. This program is flexible by design and will be developed to balance the Resident’s individual goals and interests with the Libraries’ needs. As members of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Diversity Alliance, we are committed to “increasing the hiring pipeline of qualified and talented individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups” through this residency program. As a minority-serving institution with a history as a women’s college, UNC Greensboro takes pride in providing access and opportunity to individuals from underrepresented and historically marginalized groups. Our campus community is comprised of people from across a panoply of ethnicities, racial backgrounds, religions, ability status, socioeconomic backgrounds, first-generation status, sexuality, and gender identities. In addition to growing our student body, UNC Greensboro’s faculty of color have nearly doubled from 2015-2020. Jackson Library is a committed campus partner in UNC Greensboro’s goal to increase the diversity of our faculty, staff, students, and program offerings, in order to create a more diverse and inclusive culture. This residency rotates you through different departments of your choice. An ability to adapt to varying work styles is highly desired; this program is designed around an employee working in several departments within the library. The goal is to provide the training and experience to influence the profession through the education of early career librarians for preparation for the workplace. The resident needs a demonstrated commitment to personal and professional improvement in cultural diversity competence, and to the principles of equity and justice in serving underrepresented populations. Residents are welcome to bring personal experience narratives, college coursework, and other methods of addressing this commitment.
