Western Carolina University’s Hunter Library is looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual for our Diversity Residency Program.
Resident will be solicited from recent MLS graduates with a demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and with less than 2 years of professional library experience. Hunter Library is committed to “increasing the hiring pipeline of individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups.” We encourage applications from members of historically underrepresented groups.
This will be one facet of a multi-year strategy for intentional cultural change in the library and part of a comprehensive effort to support diversity, equity and inclusion at Western Carolina University.
This is a 12-months per year fixed-term position. Initial appointment period is anticipated to be a two-year period. Any appointment beyond the initial term will be at the discretion of WCU campus leadership in accordance with existing Academic Affairs guidelines/policies.
The wide range of work experience gained through this position will enable the resident to build essential skills and plan career path options after the residency. The resident will enrich Hunter Library by bringing in new ideas and perspectives, contributing to projects and strategic initiatives, and support our commitment to building a diverse workforce and fostering diversity in the profession. The resident will complete one year primarily focused on reference and instruction and diversity, equity, and inclusion goals. By the end of the first, largely introductory year, the resident should be prepared to begin more extensive exposure to one of the Library departments, while continuing work with DEI. The next assignments to a department will be made in consultation with the Associate Dean and Library Leadership.
