C&RL News – December 2007

C&RL News, December 2007The December 2007 issue of C&RL News is now online and in the mail. Two articles this month focus on the challenges and opportunities of library renovations. Stephanie J. Graves details her experience providing instructional services outside the library as a “Homeless instruction librarian” during a renovation project at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Renovations also provide an opportunity for reflection on services and philosophies. The Biomedical Library at the University of California-San Diego used their renovation project as an opportunity to explore the library “brand.” Nancy F. Stimson walks us through their branding experiences in “Library change as branding opportunity.”

Do you Facebook? Have a MySpace page? Wonder how exactly libraries and librarians can take advantage of these popular social networking tools? This month’s Internet Resources column by Cliff Landis provides tips for getting friendly with your users through the world of “Social networking sites.” Finding new avenues to reach out to students and promote information literacy can be difficult. But rewarding. Robert Miller describes his experiences reaching out to students through online student academic organizations in his article “Join the club.”
